Specialty Mentorship

Personal Project: Software Design Mentorship

A custom mentorship path for self-directed students building a real software project, testing it with users, and revising through mentor feedback.

How it works

  • Students can bring an existing software idea or begin from a provided project path
  • The mentor helps scope the project, set goals, assign custom work, and choose useful readings or explorations
  • Meetings focus on progress review, feedback, decisions, testing plans, and next steps
  • When possible, students find real users or testers so the project improves through actual feedback and use

Best fit

  • Best for students with some software or project-building experience who can work independently between meetings
  • Good fit for students who want a portfolio-style project, real revision, and honest feedback loops
  • Assignments are personalized to the project rather than pulled from a fixed class track
  • Tools, languages, and technical pathways may vary based on the project and the student's goals
